Academic staff across Europe have only a few days left to apply for the Teaching Human-Centred Innovation training course, organised by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) within the framework of the COPILOT project, supported by the EIT Higher Education Initiative.
The application deadline is 7 June 2026 for this unique training opportunity, which will bring together higher education educators from across Europe to explore innovative teaching approaches that place people and societal needs at the centre of the learning process.
Taking place from 28 September to 1 October 2026 at DTU’s Lyngby Campus in Denmark, the four-day programme is designed for academics in engineering, STEM education, and related fields who wish to strengthen their ability to teach innovation and equip students with the skills needed to address real-world challenges.
As technological, environmental, economic, and societal conditions continue to evolve, universities play a crucial role in preparing graduates to navigate uncertainty, think critically, and contribute responsibly to the future of society. Human-Centred Innovation offers a powerful educational approach by encouraging students to understand people’s needs, analyse contexts, and develop solutions that create meaningful value before moving towards technical implementation.
Through a highly interactive, learning-by-doing format, participants will experience first-hand the innovation process their students would typically follow. Working in teams, they will explore the Double Diamond innovation framework, reflect on student-centred learning approaches, and discuss key aspects of innovation education, including creativity, collaboration, teamwork, and student development.
A central outcome of the course is the development of a practical and personalised “how-to” manual for innovation teaching, enabling participants to transfer the methods, tools, and pedagogical insights gained during the programme directly into their own teaching practice.
The programme combines a preparatory online module with four intensive days of on-site activities, including teamwork, plenary discussions, reflective exercises, and practical assignments. Participants will gain valuable insights into facilitating innovation-oriented learning environments and supporting students through complex problem-solving processes.
The course is open to academics employed at European universities who work in engineering, STEM, or related disciplines and expect to teach innovation-related content within six months following the course. Participation is application-based and places are limited.
